General Information

What’s an RPG & What’s D&D?

A role-playing game (RPG) is a mix of storytelling, problem-solving, and imagination. You and a group of players take on the roles of characters in a shared world, making choices that shape the story as it unfolds. Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is the most famous example of an RPG—a fantasy adventure where you might face dragons, explore ancient ruins, or negotiate peace between rival kingdoms. First published in the 1970s, D&D has become the gold standard for tabletop adventures, inspiring millions of players worldwide.

How Does an RPG Session Work?

We start by creating your character—the hero (or rogue!) you’ll be bringing to life. You’ll choose their background, skills, and personality. Not sure where to start? I’m happy to guide you or even provide a ready-made character you can tweak to fit your style.

Once everyone is set, the adventure begins. I’ll describe the setting, challenges, and events you face, and you’ll decide how your character reacts. The story moves forward through your choices and dice rolls—sometimes you’ll succeed brilliantly, other times you’ll have to think fast when things don’t go as planned.

RPGs are all about teamwork. You’ll work with your fellow players to solve puzzles, defeat dangerous foes, and uncover secrets. Your character will grow stronger and more skilled over time, and no two sessions are ever the same. The real magic comes from the creativity at the table—anything you can imagine, we can try to make happen.

How Does Toronto RPG Bureau Work?

I bring everything we need for a complete game—miniatures, dice, character sheets, and all the little details that bring the world to life. Whether you’re a brand new player or a seasoned adventurer, I’m here to answer questions, explain rules, and make sure you feel confident jumping into the story. For long-term campaigns, we can start with a Session 0 to shape the adventure around your characters from the very start.

Why Play In Person?

In-person play has a unique energy. The shared laughter, the reactions, and the collective creativity are all part of the experience. The true immersive gameplay comes from the narrative and the way it draws you into the shared atmosphere of our collective creativity. Sitting around a table and building the story together makes the world feel more real and the adventure more alive.

What’s Expected from Players

Bring a positive, collaborative attitude and be ready to help create a great experience for everyone. We can play at your home, a private venue, or even around a kitchen table—anywhere comfortable and free from constant distractions. The goal is to create a space where the story flows and the fun keeps going.
