Code of Conduct

Everyone participating in a Toronto RPG Bureau event is expected to follow this Code of Conduct. These guidelines exist to ensure our games are safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for all. The code applies not only during the session but also in pre-game chat, post-game discussions, and all related community spaces.

Respectful Participation

Depending on the behavior, breaking these rules may result in immediate removal or suspension from the group. In serious cases, players may be permanently banned, and sessions may be canceled without refund.

At our tables, we ask all participants to:

  • Use people's preferred names and pronouns
  • Welcome players of all experience levels, backgrounds, and identities
  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect

Respect and Inclusion

We are committed to building an inclusive and respectful space for every participant regardless of differences in culture, education, ethnicity, faith or beliefs, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical or mental health, abilities, and economic circumstances.

Harassment or discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated. Anyone who engages in abusive, threatening, or discriminatory behavior will be asked to leave and may face a permanent ban.

Our Tables Are Safe Spaces

Toronto RPG Bureau tables are safe spaces where everyone can enjoy gaming comfortably. We do not engage in or allow:

  • Inappropriate behavior toward minors
  • Sexual harassment, unwanted advances, or explicit sexual detail in play
  • Racism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or discriminatory fantasies
  • Body shaming, ableism, or religious intolerance
  • Bullying, intimidation, or deliberate harassment
  • Real-world hate symbols or extremist ideology
  • Bestiality or related content
  • Torture, sexual violence, or abuse scenarios used for entertainment
  • Extreme or aggressive violence directed at NPCs as well as players/PCs

Bullying or targeting anyone at the table, including the GM, other players, or their characters, may result in permanent removal from our games.

Romance between characters can happen in stories, but intimate details will fade to black rather than be acted out explicitly.

In any situation where safety or comfort is in question, we prioritize the perspective of the person who feels unsafe and will act in their best interest.

Substances at the Table

  • Drug use is prohibited during games.
  • Limited, respectful alcohol use is acceptable, but if intoxication begins to disrupt play, the GM may end the session early.

Group Play Guidelines

Roleplaying is collaborative. To help everyone enjoy the game:

  • Be considerate of how your actions affect the party's experience
  • Occasional risks are fine, but don't consistently work against group interests
  • Contribute to building engaging stories together
  • Focus on teamwork and collaborative problem-solving

No Player vs. Player

Player vs. Player (PvP) conflict is not allowed unless everyone at the table explicitly agrees.

  • PvP requires consent from all players involved
  • Area effects that might impact other characters need permission first
  • Characters controlled by magic, curses, or similar effects may be exceptions (GM discretion)

The GM Has the Final Say

Respect the Game Master's role in guiding the story. Rules discussions are welcome, but during play the GM's ruling stands. Further discussion can always continue after the session.

  • It's fine to point out different rule interpretations respectfully
  • Once a ruling is made, move forward with the game
  • Save detailed debates for after the session
  • Trust that the GM's goal is for everyone to have fun

Building Community Together

Remember, It's Just a Game!

We are here to tell great stories together. By treating each other with respect, supporting inclusivity, and prioritizing safety, we can make sure every session is fun, engaging, and welcoming for all.
